Arcane Season 2: Ambessa Medarda’s True Intentions Explained

Introduction of Ambessa Medarda

Ambessa Medarda was introduced in Season 1 of Arcane, but her character gained prominence in the new season. Following Jinx’s explosive attack on the council in Season 1, significant changes have occurred. Caitlyn, having lost her mother, seeks revenge on Jinx with Vi by her side. Meanwhile, Ambessa is intent on finding ways to undermine the people of Zaun. A crucial question arises: what are Ambessa’s true intentions?

Ambessa’s Manipulative Tactics

Ambessa Medarda’s primary goal is to gain control of the Hextech technology invented by Jayce. In the first three episodes of Season 2, she employs manipulation tactics on various characters, including Caitlyn.

Ambessa is not altruistic; her actions are driven by self-interest. She has a history of ridiculing or eliminating anyone who opposes her. For example, she killed Amara, a disguised Black Rose member, after Amara warned her against pursuing her ambitions regarding Hextech. This incident highlights Ambessa’s willingness to resort to violence to achieve her desires.

Ambessa’s Strategy in Act 1

Throughout Act 1 of Season 2, Ambessa engages in mind games to further her agenda. She manipulates Council members against Zaun, pushing them to use Hextech weapons against the undercity. After losing her son Kino due to a misunderstanding, Ambessa is desperate to control Hextech technology to prevent further family tragedies.

Instead of taking a direct approach, she cleverly uses influential members of the Piltover Council against Zaun, aiming to gain power in the process. The finale of Act 1 reveals that Ambessa orchestrated the attack on Memorial Day, knowing it would incite anger towards Jinx and ultimately the entire Zaun community. By manipulating events, she turns the residents of Zaun into perceived terrorists.

Caitlyn and Mel Medarda’s Role

Ambessa is aware of Caitlyn’s vulnerability following her mother’s death and seeks to exploit her desire for revenge to gain access to Hextech. Since Jayce is the key to this technology, Caitlyn’s close relationship with him presents an opportunity for Ambessa. However, she faces opposition from her own blood—Mel Medarda, who is determined to stop her mother’s quest for power.
