HBO has officially renewed “Dune: Prophecy” for a second season, as announced during a virtual press conference earlier this week. This exciting news comes just days before the first season concludes on Sunday, December 22. Set 10,000 years before Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed “Dune” film, the prequel series delves into the origins of the Bene Gesserit—an enigmatic order of powerful witches influencing the politics of Arrakis.
Inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel “Sisterhood of Dune,” the series follows Valya Harkonnen, portrayed by Emily Watson, the leader of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, as she and Olivia Williams’ character, Tula Harkonnen, unite to combat threats to humanity, all while being descendants of the nefarious House Harkonnen, which later betrays Paul Atreides and his father in the films.
The cast also features Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as his daughter, Princess Ynez, along with Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha. Co-produced by Legendary Television and HBO, fans are eagerly anticipating the release date for the second season.
