79 / 100

The jujutsu kaisen chapter 269 Manga opens in mysterious candy shop where Mei Mei is engaged in conversation with an elder. We then transition to a scene where Maki is reprimanding Yuta, who has returned to his body but bears Kenjaku’s scar once more. Megumi attempts to interrupt, wanting to apologize to everyone, but Maki insists that he has nothing to apologize for. Yuji chimes in, stating he has things to apologize for, but Kusakabe interjects, pointing out that all of this transpired because Gojo didn’t eliminate Yuji from the beginning. He emphasizes that Yuji was, in fact, a victim of Kenjaku’s scheme.

Kusakabe goes on to explain that he understands both perspectives, despite having been in favor of execution. He reassures the younger ones that they have nothing to worry about, and it is the adults who should feel ashamed. Yuta shares how he managed to return to his body, revealing that he genuinely believed he had died when Kenjaku’s technique ceased, but it was Rika who saved him. Thanks to Rika remaining in his original body, she was able to employ reverse curse technique (CT) to heal him, which also aided Shoko’s treatment.</p

Mei Mei remarks that Kenjaku’s technique burning out was an oversight on their part, as they had assumed Yuta would still be able to use his technique after activating his domain. It turned out that utilizing multiple techniques simultaneously is significantly more complex, making it understandable why Yuta’s attempt to replicate it wasn’t as effective as someone who has practiced for centuries. Yuta apologizes once more for the trouble, but Maki expresses her frustration, stating that things could have gone much more smoothly had Yuta acted with greater seriousness. She asserts that she could have led a surprise attack on Kenjaku and that Higuruma’s Executioner’s Sword plan could have been more successful if Yuta had utilized Toge’s remote cursed speech.

Todo and Panda clarify why this plan wouldn’t have worked. Higuruma, who is alive, explains that Sukuna could have killed him at any moment and was merely toying with him. He adds that Toge’s cursed speech would have been less effective within his domain, where violence is prohibited. The focus then shifts to Miguel and Larue, as Maki states that if they had been present from the beginning, the outcome would have been different. Yuta expresses surprise, thinking they weren’t coming at all.

Yuji mentions that Yuta’s cursed tools allowed him to conceal his fingers, and Hakari notes how beneficial it was to remain within Rika. He continues, explaining that thanks to Yuta, everyone was able to attack Sukuna following Gojo’s defeat and separate Uraume. The discussion turns to Sukuna’s domain and how, without Choso, Yuji would have perished. Maki clarifies that she isn’t blaming Yuta, as she herself was struck by two Black Flashes. She starts to articulate her frustration with him but halts mid-sentence.

Miwa and Momo express their regret for not contributing during the fight. Mei Mei acknowledges that Momo gave her a pleasant ride on her broom. Hakari states that he wished to help as well, but Uraume proved too formidable. Ui Ui insists that despite everyone’s regrets, he is the MVP of the battle. Kusakabe adds that while he was assisting, his sister was merely relaxing. Ui Ui defends Mei Mei, stating that she was diligently working on the New Shadow issue. Mei Mei admits she isn’t willing to jeopardize her invaluable life.

Hakari questions whether “New Shadow” refers to a binding vow that forbids the teaching of Simple Domain to outsiders. Kusakabe confirms this, noting that the original creator, Ashiya Sadatsuna, established the vow to prevent curse users from utilizing Simple Domains. Mei Mei elaborates that over time, interest in the New Shadow Style waned, and it became obscured by a “paywall.” More disciples were invited and compelled to enter into unnecessary binding vows.

There’s more to consider: one cannot refuse the head of the school if they request users to mobilize. Mei Mei states that New Shadow resembles a curse because, apparently, those who practice it have their lifespans consumed by the head of the school. However, the identity of the head remains unknown, so no one can confirm if the lifespan contract truly exists. The head of the school is succeeded by the best disciple, who alone can discover the identity of the previous head upon assuming power.

We return to the beginning of the chapter, where the elder Mei Mei was conversing with turns out to be the head of the school. She obtained this information from Tengen. Mei Mei confronts the elder about gathering disciples until their power rivaled that of the Big Three Families, stating that some sorcerers might still be alive if it weren’t for the monopolization of the Simple Domain. Furthermore, she expresses her anger over the elder’s intentions to turn even her brother into “damaged goods,” making their elimination unavoidable.

The chapter concludes with Mei Mei taking the elder’s life, who paid the ultimate price for their actions.
