In Elbaf, the Giants try to put out a fire before it spreads to Yggdrasil, the World Tree. In addition, several large bees have been falling from the tree, clearly having been injured, which confuses the Giants even more. The Giants also say that their Ear God has fallen, which is a shock to them because they consider it a giant, even amongst themselves.

Elsewhere, in what is known as Bigstein Castle, Nami has taken down one of the giant bees with help from Zeus. She desperately starts crying for her crewmates to save her as she has no idea where she currently is or how she got here. Suddenly, she hears Usopp’s voice and starts heading towards him, but she trips over the bumpy floor and comes face-to-face with a giant hedgehog, which while cute startles her. The hedgehog, in turn, gets startled too and begins to angrily chase her. Nami does find Usopp, but he too is being attacked by a large animal, in this case a giant cat. The hedgehog catches up to Nami as she extends Zeus to zap it, while also falling in the process. Thankfully, Nami lands on the cat as the hedgehog gets zapped, and it falls onto the cat, also zapping it.

Unfortunately, this only enrages the cat, and it starts chasing Nami and Usopp as the two try to get their bearings. Usopp tells Nami that like her, he just woke up in the castle wearing a new outfit, but they both remember they were drinking a special type of alcohol given to them by the Giants on the ship, which they said is powerful enough to cause hallucinations. Eventually, the two reach a dead end, but Usopp becomes convinced that the cat chasing them is a hallucination and everything else is a dream, which makes him confident he will be okay, only for the cat to actually hit him, proving that it is not an illusion.

The cat’s attack pushes the two off the edge. After they land, they see the cat has now transformed into a lion. Nami ends up using Usopp as a shield to protect her, much to his displeasure. Thankfully, however, Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji finally appear and simultaneously take out the lion, which turns back into a cat as it passes out. Luffy says he will not eat the cat because the rabbit they ate was filling enough while Sanji comforts Nami, who claims that Usopp is dead now, which is not true. Luffy says that the other animals in the castle are tasty, they should try hunting them, but Zoro points out that locating the ship and the rest of the crew takes priority. Sanji, meanwhile, states they should exploit the giant bees they encountered, but Nami is left incredulous by how nonchalant everybody is regarding their new situation, once again asking where they are right now.

A Lego Castle and Viking Outfits

Nami finds herself in a massive castle made entirely of Lego pieces, including the plants! This peculiar setting was first hinted at the end of the previous chapter. Before diving into the specifics of this Lego castle, let’s recap how the Straw Hats arrived here.

At the beginning of Chapter 1126, we saw the Giant Pirates and the Straw Hats celebrating as they left Egghead. However, things took a wild turn when they got blacked out from drinking absinthe. Upon waking up, they discovered the Thousand Sunny was missing, leaving the crew divided. Robin, Frankie, Brook, Jinbe, Bonnie, Lilith, and Kuma ended up with the Giant Pirates, while Nami wakes up alone in this strange Lego room, dressed like a Viking and seemingly trying to sell an O.

Elbaf Trivia: The Viking Connection

The name Elbaf resonates with Viking lore, and it’s interesting to note that Lego was created by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter. Denmark is part of Scandinavia, which was home to the Vikings. This connection might not be a coincidence, as Oda often weaves real-world history into the One Piece narrative.

The Battle Begins

As Nami navigates the Lego castle, she encounters enormous insects and spots Usopp, who is being attacked by a giant cat. Just as Usopp struggles against the cat, it transforms into a giant lion. In a dramatic turn of events, Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji arrive just in time to execute a coordinated combo attack, taking down the lion. The chapter concludes with the core Straw Hats reunited and ready to leave the Lego castle.

A Familiar Pattern

This reunion is reminiscent of previous arcs where the Straw Hats find themselves in bizarre situations upon arriving on a new island. This pattern has been seen in arcs like Punk Hazard, Whole Cake Island, Wano, and Egghead. It seems Oda enjoys starting new arcs with the crew facing strange creatures and challenges.

Speculations on Elbaf

As the Straw Hats leave the castle, what lies ahead? There are hints that the storyline will revolve around Prince Loki and the potential suppression of Elbaf. Luffy may have to take action to liberate the island. Some fans speculate that this arc could serve as a training ground for the crew, especially for those who lack Haki, such as Robin, Frankie, Usopp, and Brook.

The Giant Cat: A New Threat?

The giant cat that transforms into a lion raises questions. Is it a creature that has consumed a Devil Fruit, or is it a unique being native to Elbaf? The fact that Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji teamed up to defeat it could suggest that this will be a significant moment in the upcoming episode.

Potential Hallucinations?

Given that the crew consumed absinthe, there’s a possibility that they might be hallucinating. Each character was seen drinking, which could lead to some bizarre encounters as they navigate this new world.

Conclusion: What’s Next for the Straw Hats?

As the Straw Hats gear up to leave the Lego castle, the anticipation builds for what’s next in Elbaf. Will we see deeper lore regarding Joy Boy? Will they uncover the final Road Poneglyph? One thing is for sure: this arc promises to be filled with excitement and revelations.

100%. The timeline issue affects a lot of people’s perceptions, and it’s always hard to deal with in any series. For example, a character in MHA was “almost dead” for a full year before it was resolved. In universe, less than 20 minutes had passed.
Seriously, it’s important to remember that for a lot of members of the crew, they spent more time on their timeskip islands than they have being pirates.
Luffy spent more time training with animals than he has sailing on the Sunny.

Ussop, in particular, is constantly being dragged into fights where he ends up seriously demolished. His damage in Alabasta and in Dressrosa in particular stand out. He went from a liar to outrunning a dinosaur within 3 years, two years of which he was relatively safe. Truly and honestly, he has a right to complain. He knows full well the pain he’s about to receive most times. Most regular people would never sign up to take the hits he has to.

Luffy, too, is affected by the timeline. It’s been talked about here before, but people will point out they don’t like Luffy’s exhaustion gimmick when other people don’t have it so exaggerated. But then bring in the passage of time and it’s clear–Luffy is hyper-developing these powers to compete with people who had decades to refine them. Of course he’s going to have severe drawbacks that no other experienced person has.

What excites me is that the current group are the ‘east blue’ Strawhats. Even though we’ve come so far since and the crew is the crew, there’s always something special about the crew before Loguetown. I’m convinced this is a very deliberate choice for what will probably be the last conventional arc on an island we’ve been waiting to see for 20 years. Things will kick off over the next few years and there will be some plot choices that won’t please everyone, but for me this opening feels like oldschool One Piece and I’m really excited about what’s coming up in the Elbaf arc.

I like how the monster trio dynamic is back. I guess Usopp and Nami will represent that character in rpg’s the weak wizard. Strong magic but otherwise weak.

What I wonder about: Oda may have said Ifrit Jambe is equivalent to Gear 4th, possibly not every form. And the attack Zoro used on Kaido. Although it apparently cut Kaido so that isn’t bad. But Oda had Sanji use his strongest form. I guess that means in this case that in comparison to Zoro and Luffy, the next step for Sanji is Conqueror’s Haki attacks. It would not be an odd chapter to awaken it. Land of Giants, in his arc it was a missing piece for Big Mom as well as Lunarians, which Sanji was in mention with though not in something that could be taken as Sanji is Lunarian. Then the Sanjiphim aspect. Giants are considered superhuman and Sanji is supposed to be a superhuman military force. And as much as people say this is Usopp’s arc well a reality may be that Dorry and Broggy aspect is what first introduced us to Giants. That was a Zoro and Sanji thing. Oimo and Kashi could also be considered to represent Zoro and Sanji when not in rivalry. Hardrujin is probably the solo aspect that represents Luffy. As in we ran into him as a sole giant. And him hailing Usopp as a God probably represents that it was originally Usopp’s ship that Luffy used to sail the Grandline, although Luffy is the captain. It might actually be all four of their arcs. But it seems there might definitely be a Zoro and Sanji closing the gap aspect from this. Warrior of Science. Giant Warrior Pirates. A bunch of things here. The Giant cat, Cat Viper. Transformation Sulong. Could represent Wano aspects of them each of the Monster Trio awakening new abilities and the further delving into it. Cat to Cat viper also represents Dog Inuarashi (as the cover) which related to Wolf. Cat and Dog Lucci and the wolf, which is again all three of the monster trio. Even more plausible as it relates to wolf story and Robin and Robin and Saul.

Big things are happening in One Piece world, including the destruction of Saturn and New Gorosei and the reality that Oda has God’s Knights which he is basically saying is equivalent to Gorosei. A character who is main fighter like Sanji needs to get stronger. As do Luffy and Zoro.

Oda’s juggling a lot of characters these days, and even the crew can feel crowded vs whatever island specific story he wants to tell along with those new characters.
I think what’s most likely is that Oda’s just wanted to tell other stories first, maybe wanted to save major stuff for Elbaf since Usopp has wanted to go there for practically 25 real world years now. That’s good in that it gives him a goal to reach for that’s tangible vs say, Chopper’s more nebulous, “I wanna cure every disease” dream but also kinda bad because, 25 years. We’ll have to see if that was a good decision or not, it’ll really depend on what the story on Elbaf is and how the straw hats are connected/draw into it. I think, or at least hope, Usopp will be pretty invested in whatever it is and that will spark growth for him.

I do like how Oda focused particularly on Nami and Usopp for the start of this arc. In contrast to starting off Egghead with a Kuma Pacifista trying to shoot at Bonney, Oda starts off Elbaf with the guys beating down a cat while dressed as Viking in Lego Town. Maybe the rest of the arc could be more relatively fun.

Okay, I’m going to appreciate Ussop here. But before that, regarding why Usopp is depicted the way he is. Honestly, it’s probably a combo of timing and that kids still like Usopp.
Feb 2021, the 7th poll ended. Usopp was in 15th place, behind Yamato (11th), Shanks (12th), Cora), and Katakuri, but ahead of Chopper, Jinbe, Brook and Franky.
There might not be any reason to give him extra. Especially if he’s beating chapter. Franky though? Guy was 28th, He could use the help, as could Brook.
My point is that there might not actually be a “problem” with the target audience when it comes to Usopp. Him not being in the top 10 has more to do with him not being a woman and not having a “cool” factor like Corazon and Katakuri.

Moving on to Usopp and his dad. Firstly, Usopp is a plant-genesis character. Do we really think Usopp can’t sink a ship with a pop green? He’s mass producing them on the Sunny. And as we’ve seen, more are still being added. The regular Skull Exploding Grass was capable of utterly obliterating a tunnel system and blasting the digger out of the ground, destroying who knows how many feet of earth. And then, Usopp has upgraded version of the Skull Exploding Grass.
And we’re not even counting any of his constriction-type pop greens.

Regarding his Dadsopp, I’m going to be controversial here but… how exactly did he blow up the ship?
What are people thinking? That he used a regular bullet and packed it with so much haki that it exploded?
Did he use a bullet with a unique compound of his own formulation?
Did he hit some cannonballs that the crew who famously have strange glue on their deck and have to call their grandma?
Thing is, if I say he probably hit some cannonballs or a supply of gunpowder, none of you can disprove it. Best you could say is that only one explosion was seen.

Personally, I lean more toward it being a unique explosive so that he could be thematically consistent with his son, but I’d be happy to have this set the standard for fiery haki explosions.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was Oda’s attempt at making a downscaled-sized setting for Luffy and a few comrades to mostly mess around in, at least for now anyway. He didn’t even continue showing more of what Cross Guild, Shanks, and Blackbeard are doing in this chapter.

He went from showing Saturn getting burnt into a corpse to a few Straw Hats messing around with a big pussy while dressed as Vikings in Lego town. Things might have gotten too involved and complicated for Oda in tracking everyone in the world, so it might be therapeutic in a way just casually drawing a relatively absurd scenario, like old times, when the Straw Hats fought circus pirates back in the day.

I will keep this short. This Arc will be Usopp and Sanji to level up
