Paramount Pictures is doubling down on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with plans for a fourth film already in motion, just as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theaters worldwide this week. The third installment is projected to earn between $55 million and $60 million USD at the North American box office during its opening weekend, indicating a strong start for future films in the series. With an impressive 87% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, it has quickly become a family favorite.
The first two films in the franchise collectively grossed $725.2 million USD and generated over $180 million USD in global consumer spending on digital and entertainment purchases. Additionally, the Paramount+ spin-off series, Knuckles, has also gained popularity since its release earlier this year.
Jeff Fowler directed all three films, with the latest installment seeing the return of Jim Carrey as the iconic Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Sonic’s primary antagonist, alongside Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic. The cast also includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Keanu Reeves. While details regarding the fourth film remain under wraps, fans are eagerly awaiting news about the cast and storyline. Stay tuned for further updates.
