Sony Pictures has shuffled its release calendar, pushing back the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, to make room for another major project featuring the actor—Christopher Nolan’s ambitious film, The Odyssey. Originally slated for an earlier slot, Spider-Man 4 will now swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, just two weeks after The Odyssey debuts on July 17, 2026. This adjustment ensures Holland, who’s pulling double duty, gets a breather between the two blockbuster premieres.
The scheduling tweak also highlights Nolan’s long-standing love affair with IMAX technology. The Odyssey, which boasts an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, and Zendaya alongside Holland, is being filmed with IMAX’s cutting-edge cameras. Nolan is reportedly securing an exclusive theatrical window for IMAX screenings, a testament to his influence in the industry. Sony, meanwhile, is likely aiming to snag IMAX screens for Spider-Man 4 as well, following the tradition of previous Marvel hits.
Zendaya, rumored to reprise her role in Spider-Man 4, is already confirmed for The Odyssey, setting the stage for a Holland-Zendaya double feature in the summer of 2026. Production for Spider-Man 4 is expected to kick off this summer, though Sony’s keeping casting details tighter than Spidey’s web around a villain.
