Monkey D. Luffy

At just 19 years old, Luffy is one of the Four Emperors, making him one of the most powerful pirates in the world. He leads the Straw Hat Pirates, a diverse and formidable crew with several infamous and powerful members. Luffy commands immense respect and loyalty from his crew, who trust him with their lives despite his often reckless behavior.

Luffy is also part of the “Worst Generation,” a group of twelve notorious pirates known for their bold actions against the World Government, each with bounties exceeding 100,000,000 Beli. Additionally, he indirectly commands the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, a massive fleet of seven powerful New World crews totaling 5,640 people, who have pledged to serve him and come to his aid whenever needed. The World Government considers Luffy’s influence to be nearly on par with the Four Emperors, earning him the title of the “Fifth Emperor.”

Luffy officially became an Emperor after defeating Kaidou, one of the previous Emperors. His rapid rise in status over just two years caused global panic, and he now holds a bounty of 3,000,000,000 Beli. This is the lowest bounty among the Emperors but matches the bounties of his fellow Worst Generation members, Kid and Law. His bounty is only surpassed by those of former Emperors Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaidou, current Emperors Shanks, Blackbeard, and Buggy, former Warlord Mihawk, and the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.

Luffy is a fierce and creative fighter, capable of inventing new techniques even in the heat of battle. He has undergone rigorous training since childhood, learning from legendary figures like his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp, the “Hero of the Marines,” and Silvers Rayleigh, the retired first mate of the Pirate King’s crew. Despite his goofy and eccentric demeanor, Luffy has proven to be a natural-born leader.

Luffy’s threat to the World Government is evident from his invasions of their main strongholds in Paradise. He single-handedly defeated over a thousand Marines at Enies Lobby, took down two CP9 agents—Blueno and Rob Lucci (the latter being the strongest assassin in CP9’s history)—and ultimately caused the destruction of Enies Lobby via Buster Call. He also infiltrated Impel Down and orchestrated its only mass breakout and invaded Marineford during the Summit War, aiding the Whitebeard Pirates in their attempt to rescue Portgas D. Ace.

One of Luffy’s greatest strengths is his ability to become significantly more powerful in a short amount of time. He has continuously defeated renowned and powerful opponents, threatening the balance of the Three Great Powers by defeating three members of the Seven Warlords of the Sea—Crocodile, Gecko Moria, and Donquixote Doflamingo—and allying with three others, causing Jinbe to defect from his position and Trafalgar Law to lose his. The World Government also views Luffy as a grave threat because he is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army.

Despite his growing list of accomplishments, Luffy is often underestimated by his opponents due to his appearance, age, and disposition. This underestimation has often worked to his advantage, allowing him to surprise his enemies. For example, Crocodile dismissed Luffy as a greenhorn and left him for dead twice, only for Luffy to recover and ultimately defeat him in their third match. Doflamingo tried to trap Luffy in the Corrida Colosseum, expecting him to fall victim to it, but Luffy escaped and won over the gladiators there.

In the New World, Luffy has contended with the top officers of the Four Emperors, defeating two of Big Mom’s Sweet Commanders: Charlotte Cracker and Charlotte Katakuri. He aimed to take down the Four Emperors themselves, along with the Marine Admirals. During the Raid on Onigashima, Luffy’s advanced mastery of Busoshoku Haki allowed him to harm Kaidou, one of the Four Emperors known as the world’s “Strongest Creature.” Luffy evolved his Haki during the fight, reaching advanced mastery in Haoshoku, allowing him to fight Kaidou on equal footing and ultimately defeat him by awakening his Devil Fruit after suffering three defeats.

After arriving at Egghead, Luffy faced Rob Lucci, who had become an elite CP0 fighter and awakened his Devil Fruit. Using his Gear 5, Luffy overwhelmed Lucci. He then confronted the Seraphim S-Hawk and S-Bear alongside Lucci, Kaku, and Zoro. Despite being weakened from previous fights, Luffy fought Admiral Kizaru during the Egghead Incident, landing a powerful blow that left the Marine Admiral immobile. Later, after regaining most of his strength, Luffy overpowered both Admiral Kizaru and one of the Five Elders, Jaygarcia Saturn, ultimately forcing Saturn to summon his fellow Elders.
